So a friend of mine (yes I do have a couple) liked my cannon enough that he decided to build one himself. He started out trying for a scale Parrott gun, but went for speed of build and the replica plan went out the window. He now calls it his Post Apocalyptic Survival Device. It has a 1.3" by 39" rifled bore and is welded to his trailer/carriage. The rifling jig and doing the rifling took him a couple of weeks, the rest he banged (get the pun there?) out in a weekend. A true muzzleloading cannon using #11 caps and shooting 8 oz minne balls that he makes. He brought it over to my place test it out and I got this video. My camera then promptly died again so I don't have any still shots but will try to get some next week.

I should also mention that on his way home his trailer failed on a bump and flipped over, but fortunately he only toasted an axle which he had fixed a couple of hours after he got home. We are going to try to take both cannons up to the hills in the next week or so for proofing and distance accuracy shots.
I am the one your mom warned you about!

If you guys aren't careful the Peoples Democratic Republic of California will be outlawing cannons next.  ;D

The owner of that vineyard will get a bit agitated if he gets grape shot in his fruit. (Get the pun?)

Any type of breech loading cannon or one that uses shells are forbidden and will cause a panic throughout the liberal land. Fortunately these fall under the ATF mandate that prohibits restrictions on muzzleloaders, for now.The States latest attempt to reign in black powder miscreants is a new law that says you are only allowed to have one (1) pound of black powder in possession (including stored powder at home) at any time. I was just informed of this a couple of days ago and plan to 1, research this latest stupid attempt to usurp my 2nd amendment rights and 2, if it really is true, to ignore it.

We must always remember that a pun in the hands of the wrong person can be a dangerous thing. ROFL

Do NOT ignore it if it is a law - contact your local clubs and get together to fight a bad law... If you do nothing and ignore it sooner or later it will bite you.. There are lots of people in California who like black powder they just need an agitator  to stir them up and bond them together... You can be that one

Agitator, that is a much nicer word than most people use when talking about me.  rdfce

When I say "ignore it" I don't mean to sound like a head in the sand scofflaw who just hopes he will not be caught. I mean I do indeed wish not to be caught, or harassed, or reported by my neighbors,.....again. That sentence usually continues with something like; I will follow the federal laws and guidelines which prohibit the state to enact any further restrictions other than federal, on muzzleloaders, antique or reproduction. For a long time I had a card with the BATF&E mandate printed out, but have since lost it. I can usually quote it, but given the continued decline of my mental acuity, maybe I should print it up again.

I can vouch for that, hotfxr.  Oh, by the way, how do I know if my mental abilities have declined??  How do I tell if I HAVE mental abilities??  [hmm]
Young guys should hang out with old guys; old guys know stuff.
