jus turned this one out . handle is elk antler , rawhide , hob nails , and a human hair scalp lock attached with a hand made iron staple , blade is an antique shop find that was missing part of the handle and had half a poured pewter bolster ! takes an incredible edge   ;D scabbard is painted deerskin with a stiffener between the layers , has a line of beads along the stitching and rolled fringe .  the original knife cost $1.50 , antler I`ve had for a few years , rawhide was leftover from another project , and the deer skin is several years old .  the hobnails came out of a box of junk picked up at a yard sale !  this is why you never throw away anything that might be useful !  ROFL

Very very cool knife. But I'm a little concerned about the scalp part. You listed where most of the knife parts are from but left the hair part out. Is that why our leader has not been around much?

By the color of the hair it looks like he/she was going downhill anyway.   ROFL

I assume there is no scalp piece attached so how do you keep it from "shedding"?

pilgrim

looks like  your own hair for that knife.  Hope you did not go so far as to.................  just for authenticity.

scalp locks are easy , find an old human hair wig at the local thrift store , cut out pieces the size you want . loop the upper end around a strip of brain tan , fold over and wrap a few times with thread or artificial sinew , coat with a bit of epoxy  then fold a bigger piece of skin over the end and wrap it , tie it off and coat  the artificial , or real sinew with a little epoxy or hide glue !  they look a lot better than the ones you see wrapped with trade cloth !  have one on my trapdoor that can pass as the real thing , until you take a good close look at it !  had a friend ask where I got it , I told him " well , lets just say he`ll never kick my dog again " !   ROFL

That seems like a lot of work to make a fake one. It might just be easier to get a real one, you know, trip him up and one quick slice with a sharp knife, bingo, scalp lock. Where's that pesky Badger?  ROFL
