steel shot for turkey

Finding no. 4 lead shot is getting hard to find and expensive so I was thinking of using steel shot, has anyone been using steel for turkey and how is it working out. I have a 12ga sxs made by pedersoli, been shooting squirrels using 80gr pyro,1 1/4 0z lead no. 6, was thinking of using steel bbs as they are easy to find and seem to be big enough for turkey but wasn't sure if steel would have the energy out to 30yards.

Unless your barrels were specifically made for steel shot, DO NOT use steel shot in them...

Rev has it right on this one. Unless your barrels are made for steel shot, you will ruin them by using it.

The barrels on my ml shotgun are chrome lined but I had planned on using shot cups also, I am mostly concerned with the lighter steel shot having the ability to kill quickly out to 30 yards.
