We had our family Thanksgiving get-together today because all of the clan could be here this week. All was going well and we always end up going out back and do some shooting but today, the mail lady brings a package containing the Flintlock that Pat and Pilgrim gifted (cursed) me with recently. I knew what was in the package and was going to look it over later but my wife, who just loves to watch me attempt to shoot flintlocks, would have none of it. "Oh goody!, Now you all can go out and shoot a flintlock pistol.....! pnic

Long story shorter......., with no time finding out what the gun really likes, I opted for a 20 gr 3f load with a 4f prime and we commenced a long session of .......noise.

We started fairly close shooting at a paper plate. After going through the group of experienced shooters one time, it was obvious that we didn't need a target that size and at that close a range.....................

So we got a bigger cardboard box and moved closer

Shot a lot, can use the plate and most of the cardboard box over again, got to where I knew pretty close how much prime to use.

This will be a challenge, had a ball.

In my minds eye I see two duelists looking at each other as the smoke clears. " Should we have another go of it?"

" Naw, I'm good"

I have a couple like that, the flinter shoots about 2 feet high at 15 yds and the percussion shoots about 3 feet high at 15 yds with a 15 gr charge. They both need new front sights but if you find the right aimpoint they will shoot a decent group of about 4-5 inches at 25 yds.
That is why I shoot pistol matches with my revolver. It uses 25 gr but shoots them where I want them to go (2 1/2-3 inches offhand at 25 yds) except in cold weather. If it is cold the wads stick to the ball and it groups about 5 FEET! I need to find a cold weather load.

Have fun with it!

Oh, .......good..........I thought you wanted a picture of the untouched paper plate..............

I will post a pic or two of it sitting in it's new place of honor....................if I can find it in the snow...where it was thrown after ...........

Looks good there, when it's not being shot, cleaned, or thrown over the bank and then found, cleaned, and put back up there.

Nice looking little gun. Why don't you mount one of those Lyman sights you've got on the back of it.....or better yet a handgun scope?  dntn

I'll work on having the original sights pointed in the right general direction when it goes off for a while yet.
