Ok, big question here for me is why band a horn?  Some have one band, some more and some none...  Does it keep em from splitting or is it done for decoration?  Just curious if anyone knows.  ;)

Decoration and it's mostly found on horn's of a southern flavor. You'll see a lot for sale shortly. Everytime a book comes out on how to do something, everyone makes 'em. That's all I have to say about that.

Banded powder horns are a style of powder horn that comes from southern area's, Carolina's, Virginia, etc. __ The area usual dictated the number of bands on a horn, but not always. another common feature of most of these horns were an applied antler or horn tip that was turned on a lathe.  Some had screw-tip spout attachment.

The jury is still out about why, but it is guessed that the bands, along with style re-enforced the body of the horn and also served as a "grip" for holding with wet and/or cold hands!
