finally got what looks like will be my first garment quality hide done - and I have 3 more in the buck or freezer.  But between me wanting a caped hunting frock made from braintanned deerskin and my gal wanting to make a 2 or 3 hide dress - I am running out of hides because I screwed up two big hides and they are not bad that I will work into a rifle case and mocs

Nice coat by the way.

There is no reason why you cant rebrain then Dan'l. You can soak them back, rework them over the fleshing beam and remove some more of the tighter spots. Then rebrain them and go back thru the steps. Its important to remember to really work the hips and necks as these are the thickest parts.

Thanks all. Hungryjohn, lets see some pictures of that coat yer building.....Bet it looks better than ya think it does.

I did post some pictures back in Sept. (wearing your rondy clothes . topic- my new coat.

I,ve since added a cape to it and will be putting some beads along the edges of that. I haven't yet decided if I will be adding fringe to the cape or pockets just below the belt-line. One thing I will be adding is some toggle style buttons to hold it closed.

Oh yes, that is a fine looking coat HJ.

I am doing that with one - the other is a very small deer that - really is not worth doing - you might get a legging for a skinny legged kid or woman out of it.  My big buck - is smoked and I am still wanting to make a rifle case for my rifle from it.  So, I have one to re do - man the neck and rump on these things are tough - I wore myself out cabling it to try to break that down - gonna go back to the beam with it and see if I can get more grain and membrane off it  - the neck is tough to grain - was gonna do it yesterday but I had to judge a bit longer than I anticipated - now it looks like a cold front is coming in and I will probaly just put them in the freezer until we get a few days of 70Fs to get it done
