Fire Retardant Char

I cooked up a batch of char this afternoon.  Just a little word of caution to anyone making char.  Don't use your wife's old sleep shirt!  This is the second time I've run into Fire Retardant in my char.  I think most sleep ware now days must be treated with a fire retardant and it stays in the cloth after it's been chared.

I didn't have any trouble cooking it up.  It looked and felt just like it should.  I could not get the char to catch a spark at all.  When I used a burning glass it would start, but the harder I blew on the ember the sooner it burned out!

Just to be sure it wasn't me and was the cloth, I cooked up another batch using material from some old gym shorts.  I'll use anything that's 100% cotton.  :D  That batch caught a spark with the first blow of the striker.  Man did it glow!  When I blew on it, got a good bright hot glow!
