On 10/5/2010 we were hit valley wide by a major hail storm with golf ball size hail. This is what it looked like in my backyard...

FYI, I missed the worst part before I thought to get my camera...

I remember a hail storm like that down in San Antonio. Biggest hail I had ever seen. It ate through the fiberglass camper shell on my pickup. Hope you're all OK and didn't suffer too much damage.

From the plashes in the pool looks like you golf ball or larger hail stones

About golf ball size... Damaged my son's car, but he was in Scottsdale. Sunk the duck in the pool that holds the chlorine tabs... ROFL

Look similar to what happed right after I moved to Scottsdale in '98, and fortunately I had covered parking at my apartment.

can you even imagine what it would be like being caught out in something like that ? even small hail stings and raises knots ! (susp) (susp)

William

I suspect that there have been at least a few deaths attributed to hail.

In the spring of 2005 or 2006 we had a hail storm here.  The hail ranged from to golf ball size to some that were as big as a tennis balls.  I thought the big ones were going to come through our roof. It sounded like somebody was throwing boulders on our roof. We had to get a new roof, had dents on both vehicles, broke my wife's car back glass and my truck windshield, wiped out all the patio furniture, shattered the satellite dish and everything outside was damaged. The ground was almost white. Hope I don't have to go through that again!  Hope you're Ok Rev and didn't get to much damage.  Be sure to check your roof.  It may not leak now but 6 months from now it might.

must have been frightening as hell back when people were living in wickiups, and tipi`s !and I dont think a leanto ,or wall tent was much help either ! pnic pnic pnic

a good leantoo will stand up to baseball sized hail, if made correctly... At least the one we made out of pine boughs did when I was a kid and we got caught in a storm in Wisconsin.  That scoutmaster was a hero to us kids and our family's after that trip!

I wonder if strong tent fabric might give better support than imagined? After the fabric is flexible and can move away from the impact a bit. Sort of like a drum head rebounding the drum stick or mallet. Something to ponder. My deepest condolences on the loss of the poor duck in the pool. Hope that your roof didn't take any damage.
