 :applause:dang, that didn't last long. yes it was John Hanson not George Washington. it took 8 years for all of the 13 states to ratify the Constitution. the government was operating under the Articles of Confederation, and a president could only serve for 1 year. therefore there were 8 presidents before George Washington. this is a fact that is not normaly mentioned in most history text books and I'm guessing David probably saw it posted the same place I did  [hmm]

John Hanson is also the President that established the Treasury Dept. I asked the same question to a High School history teacher and his answer was George Washington. he had never heard of this before and didn't believe me until he did some research
