Primitive Shoot

I went to our club's annual primitive shoot this weekend.  There were twenty stations with a total of 25 points for the course.  I finished in the back of pack.  I had trouble hitting the easy stuff but managed to hit the difficult stuff.  Very frustrating.  The winner got 22 out of 25 points.  The men's and women's winners got engraved gorgets on a hair pipe necklace.  Due to the economy we had a smaller turnout this year so we had prizes for everyone that competed.

We also had reentry paper for those that had been through the primative course and wanted something else to do.  We had pistol - a 25 yard pistol target, big bore - a slug gun target at 50 yards, squirrel gun - a single six bull at 25 yards, any rifle 50 yards - a Fleur-de-Lac target at 50 yards and any caliber at 100 yards - a standard large bull.  We also had reentries for juniors, sub-juniors and ladies.  The shooters could also shoot for the state's traveling trophy.

I did a lot better at the reentry.  I placed in all categories and won three of them.  I did get bit by the being beat with my own rifle bug.  I tied the fellow who had been leading in the squirrel gun.  He had been using his nephew's rifle but the nephew was using it on a 50 yard target.  He wanted to shoot another squirrel gun target.  I was shooting pistol and still had my .36 and all the fixen's out so I said he could borrow mine.  We both had a 42 going into it but he took my rifle and proceeded to shoot a 45.  Oh well... at least I beat him on the pistol.  I had loaned him my .50 mountain pistol because I was using my .54 Bondini.

It was a fun weekend for all.  Weather was great - in the low 70s and only a few clouds around.

I had that problem untill a good friend told me to never shoot at anything bigger than a dime. This was 25 years before Mel Gibson uttered those famous words"Aim small,Miss small" I always pick a small spot on any target to shoot at. I still suck, but I look good doin' it!!! blah

I always try to pick a small spot and aim for that but sometimes I have trouble getting close to the spot.  :)

At the shoot I managed to miss a potato at about 25 yards.  The next shot at the same distance I plastered a sucker about the size of a quarter.  Most of the primitive went that way for me but it's still all fun.
