Braizer construction question

I have a question as to the construction of a brazier.  Some are welded together and some are riveted, which is the period correct way?  Does that have anything to do with the longevity of it or does it matter?

Use lump charcoal for the best results.  Regular bricquets leave a horrendous amount of gritty clay filled ash.  Lump charcoal burns longer, cleaner and hotter and is cheaper in the long run.

Remember that these are household use items that would have been placed on the hearth, and would not have been found in a Mountain Man's camp.  That said, they do work wonderfully well as a small stove.  DO NOT use one inside a tent as they make a huge amount of Carbon Monoxide and can kill.

Common sense applies.
