Is anybody using the lubed felt wads and how are you loading them?

I use them w/ my cap and ball revolvers usually on top of the ball. I also use them w/my R.E.A.L. bullets in my >50 CVA "Mountain" rifle. Not sure why it happens but I've found it to give slightly tighter groups.

I have read that they help accuracy and give better patterns in shotguns. I'm hoping for a tighter pattern out of my cylinder bore CVA

I  use them in my army 44 revolver and they work great. In my rifles I use hornets nest wadding between my powder and my projectile. It has made for minimally tighter groups when shooting patched round balls in rifles  but greatly improved accuracy when shooting R.E.A.L bullets in my 58 and round balls in my smoothbore.

I also use them in my dbl. bbl. Pedersoli caplock. I found them to give me ease of loading and more uniform patterns.

I use them with just about everything other than a patched round ball.
The reason they work is they seal gasses better below the projectile thus eliminating or reducing the amount of escaping gasses. Since very few cast REALs, Maxi-Balls, Maxi-Hunters, etc. are tight enough to totally seal a rifled bore, the wad (felt or not) can seal the bore below the bullet. This aids in increased velocity and maybe accuracy.

I haven't tried them in my trade gun but I use them with my hunting loads in my rifles. They can help even with patched ball loads in a rifle if you have a rough bore or are shredding patches.

I used them in my old revolver, but my Remington revolver doesn't like them.

Old thread but then what's new?  I used to use hornets nest in my pistol but had to stop when complaints of the loads "stinging" from small game started coming in.

You are going to the bad place for that one bro!   :qz:
I am the one your mom warned you about!

Hanshi, you are supposed to put a lead ball or some shot over the hornet nest wadding so it does more than "sting" the small game.   :mini-devil-28492: hntr hdslp whipping

I think I may have already signed that on that line long ago, just can't remember.  But point taken concerning the addition of a lead ball over the wadding.

I know I should seek forgiveness for the "stinging" remark but doubt any would would be granted.  However!  It does take for...honesty...uh...guts to post something that will likely end up with a "contract" being put out on me.  hotfxr, bro, you may yet end up a single sibling.

Meanwhile I am still here even if in "much used" condition.  Had chest x-ray today - I hope that was what all it involved.  wtch
