Squirrel rifles .40 and under.

I left town with 7 inches of snow on the ground to go to the annual Squirrel rifle match, the roads were messy but not frozen and traffic wasn't bad. My maps app (I know, not very primitive) told me there was a bad wreck ahead and took me on a scenic route to my destination but it got me there.

The weather wasn't bad there if you were dressed for it, temps around 30 degrees F when I got there and dropping to 15 or 20 by the time we were done shooting, but not much wind. The little canyon The Buckhorn Skinners shoot in is often quite windy so it was a good trade: cold, snow and mud instead of wind.

I shot flint and percussion in the squirrel rifle matches and didn't enter the hunters match (any caliber) or the mountain man run.
I didn't shoot all that well but I had a good time until it got colder than I was dressed for.

Sorry I cant provide pictures, I was busy shooting.

In my opinion  if you got to shoot and had fun it was a good day.  thmbsup

Got to agree w/old salt, with one caveat, if I get to shoot I have fun.

That was the point of the post, conditions weren't great but I got to shoot and get together with some other muzzleloaders, so I had a good time!

That sounds like and adventure and I love adventures. I would be interested to know if the cold and damp affected the ballistics at all. I noticed the one time I did some shooting in the rain (with the shooters under cover of course) it seemed that everything from the pan flash to the thunk of the PRB was slower. We should send Hanshi out on a cold, wet, snowy day with his chrono to check that out.
I am the one your mom warned you about!
