couple of pieces I made a few years back .  they are made from steatite , that had crystalized and was way to hard to be used for making pipe bowls . so I figured what the heck !  the big one is stone with an oak handle , the entire thing wrapped with braided raw deer skin ! the smaller is stone and curly maple put together with sinew , and hide glue .  I used artificial sinew that had the wax removed ( dawn dishwashing liquid and very hot water , and pull it through a piece of heavy cloth while pinching it , takes a couple of passes . once the wax is removed , you wrap your item and apply your glue to set it . actually very strong binding ! I use it for fletching arrows and setting arrow heads !

They would knock a hole in anyone's head. Try Nancy Pelosi's head just to be sure.  ;D

How difficult was it to shape those club heads?  Now you've made me want to make one.  [hmm]
Young guys should hang out with old guys; old guys know stuff.

dirty and dusty , but not that difficult . I used an old sears craftsman 1x42 inch belt sander for most of it . then polished the stone with 400 grit wet and dry . heat it up a bit , rub some beeswax on it and buff it with a piece of denim . gives it a nice finished look and darkens the stone a bit !  those to pieces were once part of a stone sink . I had probably 60 pounds of it ,  had to leave it behind when I moved back in 2003 .  good stone for for a club head , much harder than most steatite .  I `ve seen them made with slate , sandstone , marble . there`s several types you can use , some harder to work than others ! this pipe was made from the same stone . sorry , but this is the best photo I have of it !
