I'm needing some 3/4" flints down to my last 3 so if you have some extras you would like to part with let me know , willing to buy  regular or saw cut types not too picky just so their not garbage and I only get 4 shots each from them :-)    Also have 45 cal balls and 200 gr conicals to trade if interested .

If you only get 4 shot from a flint.  You definitely need to invest in some quality French Flints or English Flints.

I got those kind now I was just saying I didn't want to buy or trade for junk flints that i get only a few strikes from ,I have enough issues trying to get good spark as it is .   srndr

Just a suggestion.  If you are having problems with sparks, and eating flints with 3-4 shots, you should have your lock tuned.  It sounds like more than a flint problem.  I usually go 20+ with a single flint, and sometimes more!

English and French flints aren't junk. Both are preferred to American flints by a majority of shooters, with good reason. As ADK Bigfoot said, if you're only getting 3-4 shots out of an English or French rock, the problem isn't with your flints. Tuning locks isn't one of my areas of know-how so I can't give any advice on the subject, but there's definitely an issue with the lock itself.

Far be it from me to tell ANYONE about flintlocks(@%$@%!),but even when I was fighting with that misbegotten spawn of Satan I was getting
at least 2 dozen "strikes" from a flint. I tried both the English and the French, and found the French to be better and longer lasting.
It SOUNDS like(hard to tell without all the details, and harder still not being there in person) one of 3 things. 1; Your flint is too long and crashing head on into the frizzen. 2; Your flint is too long and crashing into the bottom of the pan. 3; The frizzen spring is( Someone correct me here if I have it backwards) too
weak causing the frizzen to rebound into the flint. It may also be too Strong and not moving out of the way enough.
Like I said, I don't like flint, but I did learn a few things in fighting with it.

Gentlemen let me set this straight , I have the English flints now and am getting a good amount of strikes from them so I don't have issue with lock or these flints what I meant in my original post was that I wish to get some other flints to try  but i don't want the junk ones that will only yield 4-5 strikes before their shot . sorry for the confusion .

Then by all means try the French. I found them to be better than the English.
