Is there any kind of man made glass that will work as a flint in a flintlock rifle?

Don't know about glass, but I read some where that Obsidian will work.  Obsidian is a glass like rock of sorts that is formed from the Lava from a  Volcano

I was wondering. There is obsidian 275 miles from here, but lots of Texas "chert" near. I have made rifle flints from it. I have never found a glass that would strike a spark on a steel.  I am still looking.

Don't even try obsidian or any kind of glass. All it will do is crumble and turn to dust. You wouldn't want it in your eyes. Stick with you local cherts. Much harder and safer.

I made a workable flint from white glass of a lamp. It worked but is softer not long lasting. Linc, thanks for the warning.
