TOW sells a ramrod of "ramin".  .what sort of material is it?  They sell the hickory rods as well. I am looking at one of these to replace synthetic and fiberglass rods.

As I understand the Ramin wood is out of Brazil. Supposedly as good a Oak.
It is tough wood, but the only examples I have seen are Lows a Ace Hardware.
the grain in my opinon it is not straight enough to be used as a ram rod

Brittle!

I have used Ramin dowell a time or two and I recommend that it be used as a decorative rod only.
