I dunno but IMHO Mikes work on these lancasters is starting to give Tony at TVM a bit of competition.....

"Patience" is starting to get jealous at my drooling over these fine creations.

Mike, don't you just LOVE when someone point's out thing's wrong with your "Hawkin"? I have a bench copy of a Samuel Harter,1874 Michigan Gunsmith, and his Gun's are simular to Sam and Jakes gun's,but they are DIFFERENT. I let these "experts" go on and on,and I'll ask what eles isn't Hawkinesque,he'll tell me,not knowing I was the builder,(world famous,it's just that nobody know's it!)then I'll proceed to give him the run down on the gun, ending with, not ALL half stock,"plain's" rifles where built by Sam and Jake, and if it wasn't for the movie, you wouldn't even KNOW who they were." And to use your quote,"Now,sit down and SHUT UP!"

Oh crap....Ps,That's amighty fine gun your building there! Hope to see ya this Spring at freindship. I'll make sure to introduce myself. I'll be the guy with an armload of crap I dont need!

And I'll be the guy with a booth crammed full of stuff I don't need.... I actually prefer taking orders down there, to selling guns off the rack, because if I make it I spend it....

You better take Patience out and show her some attention or she'll get jealous!

Well, these aren't the best pictures, but it's after dark and we're supposed to have a storm blowing in tonight, so tomorrow might be a bust as far as being able to get outside for some overcast-daylight shots. I'm going to try to find time to have some really good photos taken by my really, really good photographer ex-brother-in-law, but that's "if and when" -- so these will have to do, for the moment.

Much as I like the effect it added to the red-gold stain and the curl of the wood, I am standing by my original assertion that linseed oil is more trouble than it's worth, and I will be replenishing my supply of tung oil ASAP. Nasty, stinky, slow-to-dry crud....

But it do look purty.

An update on this project.

Rev generously donated one of his and Peach Pie's most excellent powder horns, and a few years back Tom Hargrove (Twobellies I believe has been his forum username) gifted me with a couple of fine shooting pouches. One is being re-gifted to complete a nice hunter's package, less of course such necessities as round ball, patches, powder, cleaning accessories, etc.

Tomorrow at work I will take pictures of the whole package (we have a handy snowy woods to use as a backdrop), and after work will be meeting with folks from the Milan, IN American Legion to turn over the rifle and accoutrements, and discuss arrangements for the raffle. I'll be posting the results of that discussion (and pics of the gun, horn, and pouch) not only on this thread but in several other categories on this forum. Details such as the cost of tickets and how to go about getting them will be included in that post.

Stayed tuned, and thanks in advance for the help this will bring to a family much needing it.
