Could I ask a favor of some of our horners here on the board? I am attempting to build my first horn ever, which will be a Southern banded horn. I have already turned a nice beehive base plug using (would you believe it?) my drill press as a makeshift lathe. I was wondering if any of you might have some small rings or slices of scrap horn left over from some of your projects that I could use to cut the bands for my horn from? I don't need many, maybe just three or four rings, anywhere from 1" to 2-1/2" or so in diameter, and not more than 1" wide? I would like to dye them dark brown and heat apply them to my horn. If any of you have any leftover pieces, I would gladly pay you for them. Thanks for any help fellas!  chrrs

I suggest you go to www.Powderhornsandmore.com & order a horn to make your rings from. You can get a horn for about $15 & for that many rings you will need a full horn, especially as you are likely to mess up a few rings (don't ask me how I know!). Talk to John & tell him what you need it for, he has been building horns for a lot of years & will know what you want. Feel free to tell him I pointed you in his direction. Couldn't hurt...

I would really like to see how your using your drill press as a lathe!!! Got any pics of your setup or could you describe it in detail for me, sure I'm not the only one that would be interested in seeing. Thanks
