Folks, I need some help here. I want to make a sheath for my belt ax ( ft. meigs pattern ) to fit on back of my shooting pouch...but I cant figure out the best way.  ??? If any one has a bag with a way to carry there hawk on it, I sure would like some photos showing how you did it. Thanks,

Ned

Jason, I really appreciate this! Your the only one on three forums who showed me a photo...it makes a major difference.

Jason,

Did you leave your handle full length? I'm wondering whether the handle will jab me in the side without shortening. This ax was made by Woodchuck...Andy...and I believe he said it was cast. Where would you remove metal to lighten it?

Just checked mine...weighs 11.1 oz. and 13.5 in. overall with a .6 in. thick by 1.3 in. wide (at the eye) handle. I was thinking about cutting the handle to 10 in., the same depth as my bag.

A fine gentleman from another forum showed me these options for carrying a hawk...he gave permission to show these to my friends on this forum.

I have a plan to do a hawk sheath in a shoulder type holster carried under the arm like a pistol holster. These are mentioned in some historical texts. I don't have the words to describe it though. I was going to use the one hawk head I got from Andy and put it together wih the knife I got from Jerry. I just need to find some osage for the hawk handle.

I like the black pouch carrying method too. Only I would put it on the back of the pouch.

I also have a sketch book somewhere at home showing a Spanish colonial bag and hatchet method. I will look it up and scan (new scanner at work  ;D)it.

Thanks for the pics, they are helping me as well.
