Had my first immunotherapy treatment yesterday. A CAT Scan last Tues. showed I also have a growth on my left kidney. They want to see what happens w/this therapy before they biopsy it. If it's melanoma also, the therapy should take care of it. This is a REALLY new treatment, just approved by the FDA in October and I'm the first patient to get it in my health system. I found the melanoma on my lung because I volunteered for a spiral tomography study of smokers & former smokers to see if they could detect lung cancer @ an early stage before symptoms show up. I'm so dumb I keep being a pioneer for this stuff I was also in a study about8 yrs. ago for a time release pain med capsule for joint surgery. I've got to quit being a guinea pig for the medical profession. Hopefully, I'll be able to get out hunting shortly. My beagle's starting to glare @ me.

Be careful what you volunteer for. Not all of those studies involve treatments that are non-harmful.

Also, if the studies are done properly, you may be in the placebo group and get no potential benefits at all.

Good news. I finished my regimen of 2 drugs 2 wks ago so to check my progress, I had a CAT scan w/contrast last Friday. Today, when I went in for my maintainense (sp.) dose of Opdivo, they told me that the nodules that showed up in the scan after the surgery were gone, and the enlarged lymph nodes have returned to normal. Now once I get this witches brew of Prednisone & anti-biotics out of my bloodstream, I should be in pretty good shape.
