Stopped at a Flea Market last weekend to look around. While most old and rusty stuff is considered 'Antique' and therefore of great value and price, the bins of silverware and utensils are usually dirt cheap. I found this Geneva Forge (1935-1950) slicer for $1. I cut the blade to size, bobbed the handle a bit. I left the brand markings because they are unique but of course not PC. A quick resharpening and it shaves hair. The other section will be cut for a small tang and inserted into a bone handle.

Actually, it is not a set of scales but a solid grip with a slot for the tang. It has very nice fitting and the blade appears to be hammer forged. The wood could very well be rosewood. I cut about an inch off the butt that had the standard 'kitchen' type swell at the bottom. I hope to get a sheath cobbed up for it to attach to the bag.

That second picture makes me think it's Rosewood, which was somewhat common on knives back in the 60's & 70's.

Nice job. I cary an "Old Hickory" 12" blade in the field. The old high carbon stuff is great at cutting and keeping an edge. I pick them up when I find them. Have a few L.F.&C small butchers that make quick work on deer and elk...
