Flint bevel up or bevel down

I have researched different posts and it has been stated that some rifle frizzens prefer bevel down or bevel up.  My question is, Where on the frizzen should the flint strike the frizzen.  In other works, where should the initial contact point be.  I have read that the flint should be 1/8" away from frizzen when cock is at 1/2 cock.   The Pa flintlock I have contacts the frizzen near top, about 1/4 down from top of frizzen, but doesn't appear to scrape full frizzen. seems to kick frizzen back because it hits too high. This is with an L&R lock.  L&R states the flint should be 5/8" long by 3/4" wide.  That sems too short.  The flint stikes in middle of frizzen. But flint only extends 1/8" beyond lock jaws.  With a 3/4" long by 5/8" wide flint the flint is 1/4" fron frizzen at 1/2 cock and strikes 1/4 down from top and cock /flint screw hit frizzen. I am about to try different length flints but need to know where the flint should stike for best spark and frizzen and flint wear.  Thanks for you input.

You can move the flint forward in the jaws.  Just be sure to tighten well.  some put a stick behind the flint to fill the gap.  I like my flint to engage the frizzen about 1/3 down from the top.

When possible I start with bevel up and then turn it over as the impact gets too low.

Depends on how thick the flint is an each individual lock. I try to get mine to strike just a bit from the top to get a long scrape down [conf]
