Yesterday I got to visit the Springfield Armory Museum, probably one of the most memorable places I have ever been to. It was fantastic. I have to go back again. I was overwhelmed with the amount of our country's historical pieces all in one place. It is divided into two sections, one shows the manufacturing of the arms and parts, and the other show the arms produced by the Springfield Armory. There is one section that has at least a couple of hundred muzzle loaders standing side by side, at two levels, looking like an organ. Talk about overwhelming the senses.
If you ever come close to Springfield Mass., you should make it a priority to visit this wonderful place. Some of the people that work there are extremely knowledgeable about how to and how the the Springfield Armory muzzle loaders were built. I saw such wonderfully built arms that were in mint condition, and I saw some that had been through the hell that is sometimes asked of our soldiers and equipment.
The next time I go back I am taking a camera and a note book and I am gong to plan out what I want to do. I have not been to the website yet, so make sure you check that out, I will.
The manufacturing side of it was just as interesting, some of the original equipment was there and you could see how it worked.
I guess I could go on for hours, it is hard to explain how cool one place can be when it combines most of the stuff I find interesting into one place. If you live in New England, there ain't any excuse, get into the Springfield Armory and see how our history comes alive right before your eyes.
