I see Goex has a "new" reenactor powder, a little cheaper than the regular.  Any one use it and is it ok for regular hunting loads...

From Guns.com...
"Goex Powder Inc. has been the only American manufacturer of authentic black powder for the past 200 years.  For this spring, they've concocted a new batch of powder with 100% percent black powder ignition, specifically aimed at meeting the needs at the "modern" historical reenactor and so aptly named Goex Reenactor Gunpowder.

Nothing fancy in terms of operations as Goex's new Reenactor Gunpowder loads the same volume charge as any regular grade black powder. The stuff performs at nice low pressures so its perfectly suited for blank fire in muskets, pistols, carbines and of course cannons.  It's also totally appropriate for round ball muzzleloader shooters looking to assuage wear on their vintage and modern reproduction firearms and are on a budget.  Definitely not a sporting powder though.

Above all, though Goex promises reliablilty with every shot especially for those souls dedicated enough to relive history so that we may never for get it.  One pound tins will be available at all Goex dealers this spring.  "

Sounds good but what is the difference in speed and in regard to pressure? Can't find any reviews so far.

"Definitely not a sporting powder though"  Makes me wonder

Sounds like just another wrapper with a different label.

I've a friend at church that does C.W. Reenactor they use a dirty smokeie powder for show, but when target or hunting uses Swiss.

He said that goex is coming out with a new black that is to be as good or better than swiss.

been  using regular goex powder for almost 30 years. both shooting and at reenactments. seen a lot of other powder out there some good some not so good. Stay with what works regular goex a little more expensive but worth the cost. we pool together and buy in 25 pound lots. a lot cheaper that way.

I asked the guys running the powder magazine at Friendship what the difference was.  They said the reenactor grade was a special coarse grind suitable for firing blanks.  Closest to the old cannon grade.   It is not recommended as a propellent behind an actual bullet, though it would probably work.  It is intended as an ultra safe powder guarenteed not to blow up a reenactor's popgun when firing blanks.

I've been using the reenactors powder in my smoothies. It didnt create consistant loads for my rifles however... Chucks a ball out the Bess pretty well though. I can still put 5 in a pie plate at 50 with it. Good enough for a smoothy!  thmbsup
