Very nice indeed! A knifemaker friend of mine also isn't a fan of the shiny.
But after the floods last month, he was set to watching the gate at the
local pit, letting trucks in and out. SO...he sat there and put mirror finishes
on 3 of his blades. And got paid to do it! I need a job like that!!

ebay -and I won some at a iron in the hat at bowies hammerin in tn.
its very dense and i have to wear a respirator to sand it. but it buffs out nice dont it?

William

Is that perhaps Ebony wood?  I had some at one time, got it from a Goodwill store.  It was the backing to an ivory carving.  It is such a dense, oily wood that it doesn't require any finish, just sanding.  The dust it gives off can cause some bad things to happen though, from skin reactions to respiratory distress.

yea ive heard it called both ebony or african blackwood same stuff.
