Might be a little off subject, but I have to share something that I have been doing lately.  Got this off another site; concerns a drink used by Southwest natives when they ran over long distances.  Using Chia seeds (purchased from a local health food store)in a mixture with water, sweetener, lime/lemon juice) as an endurance/hydration drink.  I have been using it before/during cross country ski races, and I feel it has helped with my endurance. Finished a 20K race feeling as fresh as I ever have.  Probably should have entered the 40K the way I felt.  I know that some of it might be psychological, but I think that if it works, do it.  Recipe as follows:   2 Tablespoons Chia seed (yes, the same seed used in the infamous 'Chia Pet') I grind them in a small coffee bean grinder
              1 bottle water (16-20 oz)
1 teaspoon sweetener (can be sugar, honey, agave, etc.)
1 teaspoon lemon/lime juice (for a little flavor)
Recommend using it fairly soon after mixing it, as it will ferment and acquire a little bit of a sparkle, with flavor change.  Not bad, just a change.
I also found the flavor change can be prevented by freezing the bottle until you want to use it, just take it out early enough for it to thaw.
Hope some of you find this interesting.  It has helped me in my efforts to stay fit enough to pursue our activities.   Megwetch,  Sinnanatha

Dangnab it Sinnanatha. you shouldn't have told them it'll ferment. Now there won't be a Chia seed to be found within 100mi. of some of these characters. Too bad my diabetes won't let me drink alky, I'd  have to try it myself.

fermenting isn't a bad thing....it's just another way to preserve whats in your jug.. I like my 'fruit at the bottom' yogurt a little bubbly....it's good that way..
