Is anyone shooting T7 in their sidelocks? I didnt know if it would create ignition problems if a #11 wasnt hot enough to ignite it properly? I believe it is hotter than pyrodex so what would be a max load in say a 54cal. investarms hawken? I would a lot rather shoot black powder but there isnt a supplier for it anywhere near here and to order it is expensive!

Used 777 (one pound) when I couldn't get BP.. my #11's set it off good most times. Had to double cap a couple of rounds..Then back to black and try to keep extra on hand now...Better be careful though...I'm now down to only #3 of fff.

I found an instruction sheet for 777 from a couple of years ago that said to reduce the blackpowder load by 15% to get the equiv. load with 777. I haven't had any problems w/caplocks or my unmentionable (gonna sell it for money towards another flintlock). Traditional's more fun.  hntr

Thanks fellas!

If in doubt, use CCI #11 magnum caps.

Some guns go off fine with it and some need a magnum cap. If in doubt use the magnum. It almost cost me the biggest deer I have ever taken because 3 standard caps didn't make it go boom. The 4th and last cap was a magnum and it went boom.
Since then I use the magnum caps when hunting with it.
Don't use it in a flintlock without a black powder "starter".

Yepper. It cost me a big deer a few years ago. Except I was using Remington caps which I've had more than my share of problems with. I should have known better. I have never had problems with the standard CCI caps and Pyrodex RS. Not sure if they are still made but CVA RedHots were real trustworthy also. But just in case I now have a couple of tins of the CCI Magnums. thmbsup

I Guess each of our lady's like what they like?!?
Any cap works on the T/C Hawkins.
Remington seems to work best for the Adresa Frontier.
And the Pennsylvania works best with CCI Magnums.
Pyrodex is what I use No Real B P close to home. :-(

The only caps I ever have problems with are the Winchester magnum #11's so I use nothing but Remington 11's if I can get them.  When I used T-7 I noticed that the recoil was "sharper" and the report was more of a crack than the boom of Goex.  It makes plenty of smoke too and I've used it for several BP only CAS matches.
