Razor

Been workin' on this fer a liddle bit..
Thought I heard  "tink" when I hardened the blade a couple nights ago..  'shok'
Found a hairline crack in the spine while doin' a bit of polishing on the pewter ..'bout 3 fingers from the bolster..  slap
made from an old worn out file...
13" overall...8.5 " blade ...blacktail antler...poured pewter bolster and cap.
Oh well...make a good shop knife 'til it breaks...
Next one won't be quite so big...mebbe a  4 or 5 " blade..

hank-aye

Well, by golly, that is one GOOOOOD lookin knife.
Sorry it went "tink". If ya were ta make a twin (without the 'tink'),
what might ya charge fer it?

Razor

Thanks for the kind words Bud...  rdfce

Had me a brainphart...  rdfce
Got the blade to a high yella an' quenched in near freezin' water...
(ain't moved my oil quench over yet )

Window shoppin' is fun...That's how we figger out what we want  NEED !!

Well, mebbe I'll finish sharpening her up and give her a try...   [hmm]

Thumper

Razor, when you bring up the blade for hardening, just go to non-magnetic red, then quench....and yeah, warmer water will make a difference for sure. Then go in to the tempering stage. Merry Christmas....and a good lookin' blade to boot!!!

Razor

Thanks Thump..  dntn
I usually quench between a dark ~ nice cherry red...depending on the size/mat'l of the blade..
Then  temper...
I don't know what I was thinkin'    hdslp
Obviously wasn't....

bull frog

Sory to hear that Razor...sure is a nice looking blade, I like that style.

shootrj2003

could you maybe ,find the crack, grind it out and have it filled by a tig or mig welder and refinish?

Razor

I t'ink mebbe it be less trouble an' more fun just to make 'nother knife...

shootrj2003

well yeah ! but the repair is fairly simple and you'd have two knives ,a welder wouldn't charge much to fill a notch.[or shouldn't]

monkeywright

yea a good tigger would be able to fix that in 10 mins or less damn shame your so far away or i would fix it for ya just for grins nice looking blade

crazell

that tis a mighty fine knife. thmbsup
