I know I'm pretty new here but had to get this out.
Had to have my Golden retriever "Allie" put down today ,Bout the hardest thing we ever had to do.She had developed nasal cancer and the vet said there was not much we could do but prolong her life at a loss of her eysight and good looks.
Just an old dog(but the best I ever saw) but we will truly miss her always.   :'(

always hard to lose a friend...

DEADDAWG

Mark, I'm so sorry for the loss of your pup (don't matter how old they are, they're always puppies). You can take comfort in the fact that she won't have any more pain or fear.  You'll see her again on the other side.

"The Rainbow Bridge"

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.

There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.

The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Sorry for your loss, Deaddawg thank you so much, I have so many friends waiting over that bridge- sometimes you have to make the choice of quanity vs quality. I opt for the quality and think they agree,  thanks again,  can't see to type any more,  sob

Condolences on the loss of you friend... I think we all know how you feel, it is always rough to lose a pet.

i don't remember where I saw this but it does seem fitting now...(and forgive me if you know the original - my memory is not what it used to be)

A man and his dog were walking down a dirt road, the road stretched on and on... The man realized after a time that he and his dog had passed beyond life.  They continued walking and were getting thirsty when they cam upon the vision he had been expecting,a side road paved in gold that ended at the Big Pearly gates and beautiful vista's beyond the gates.
When the man asked the individual at the desk in front gates for some water He was told "come on in,this is Heaven and there is a glass right beyond the gate for you"  When he asked about some for his dog the man behind said the dog could not enter... Our man replied with " Well, thanks for the offer but we will continue down the road"
After a while they two came to a dirt track leading to a ramshackle gate and an old farmer type leaning against it. the Man asked the farmer if he could spare some water.  The farmer replied "There's the well with cool water right over there, Help yourself..." When the man asked about some water for his dog the farmer replied " There should be a pan there for your friend also."
After hearing this the man looked at the farmer and said " what place is this?"  Our farmer replied "this is Heaven.."  the man was obviously confused so the farmer went on to say "We let Lucifer run the place up the road to weed out those who would not fit here.  Anyone who would trade friendship for a drink is not worthy..."

I hope I conveyed the sense of the story ...

My condolences.  It takes a dog person to understand the bond.  They are like children and sometimes I forget they are not.  I have lost "children" before and can empathize.  We lost one two and a half years ago and still cannot bring ourselves to talk about her.  My Basset, Micky, is in decline and it will be difficult for me to handle.  My sympathies on your loss.
Young guys should hang out with old guys; old guys know stuff.

Mark, being a dog person I understand where you are coming from.  There is a special bond between a dog and their master.  It is like losing a member of the family.  My lab is my best friend hands down.  She is always there for me no matter what.  She helped me get through  the loss of my son. And when she dies it will be just as hard as when my son was killed. My Grandfather use to say " A person will have alot of friends in life but only one good dog."  I have been fortunate in my life I have had 2, a redbone coon hound  and  my lab . I have had alot of other dogs but those 2 have been extra special in my life. There will only be a few that you develop that special bond. My sympathies go out to you.

My sincere condolanses. I don't know what I would do without ol' Henry. Go to the pound and get yourself a buddy in a little bit when you're ready.

  Sorry for your loss.
I as well have lost pets and they were like my children--they were family. Looking forward to the day when we meet again. Still hurts in the meantime. Dreading the day when I lose my current pets, as they are as close to me as any have ever been and that includes people. My dog Guy is getting up there in age--he's nearly 10 and I have had him for going on 8 years. I rescued him from the local vets office when no-one else would take him--figured I would give him a temporary home til I could find someone who could take him. Well the idea of temporary lasted all of about 1 day, then he adopted me and has been with me through more hell than I care to remember but has always been there for me and has been so loyal I cant put it into words. Only time I dont have him with me is at work cuz I cant take him with or when I am at a vous --and thats only because he is so high strung that he drives everyone else crazy.
