After retiring, selling a house, moving, buying another house, picking through 30 yrs of accumulation to take with me... I finally got
some time to do a little forging/knifemaking...  ;D ;D
I made this for a friend as a Christmas present...

I really like the file work, tell us a little about the steel that is used for RR spikes.  IIRC, there are several types of steel used for spikes depending on the type of track and load requirments?  How can you determine if it will make for a good knife?

The spikes that work for knives are marked HC, for High Carbon. I have some if anyone wants to give it a go...

Usually I clean 'em up a lot more, but this friend is really into the primitive/rustic look..
The file work was a last minute inspiration.. as y'all kin tell, the 'layout' measurements were via Mk I, Mod II eyeball (bifocals  ROFL)
Must'a took me all of 10 mebbe 15 minutes...
