Try Your Macro Setting

Here it is 3:50 AM..... Woke up awhile ago and can't go back to sleep.  If you haven't tried the Macro (Big) setting on your camera you should give it a try.  You can really get some good stuff when you get in close.  Check your manual to see what the minimum & maximum focal distance (the distance from your camera that things will be in focus) is on your camera or the lens you are using.  You'll need to stay within that range to get good sharp photos.  It means getting down close to your subject.  On your knees or belly lots of times.  I have a cheap pair of knee pads I use.  Even a piece of cardboard will help if the ground is rocky.   

The photo below is of Wood Sorrel.  The blooms are from nickle to quarter size.  Taken in Macro mode in my front yard.
