When sanding a stock of curly maple do you have to wear gloves
Apparently I have a lot of oil in my skin and it discolors the wood in handling

As soon as you stain , it wont be noticable.

I always use those cheap white cotton gloves  when sanding stocks, horns and other projects.

It keeps off the sweat and oils from my hands..

It's not what tool you use to hunt with.
It's that you use the tool Legally and Ethically

I also have a tendency to "stain" stocks while handling them. Like Frank says, after final sanding and application of finish there will be no trace of your pinkies in or on the wood.

Have you decided on a finish for Longshanks?

Yep the stain is going on now and a lot of whiskering and staining left to do
Then a thorough soaking in 50/50 boiled linseed oil/mineral spirits, and the final finish is Tung Oil

Oh and one of the stains is a home brew made by Tony
