Hi I found these Eating utensils in an Antique store and was thinking of using them in my kit...What modifications would be necessary? the cutlery company started in 1830's carbon blades wood pinned handle with pewter caps. Probably circa Civil War +/- ..... I more or less do 1760-1840's.......

Nice score. I've picked up several of these from 2nd hand store's and yard sales over the years. Resold or traded a lot of them at rondies. Everyone seems to really like them. thmbsup

I am the one your mom warned you about!

It depends on what time period you wish to portray but I think the main difference is the number of tines the fork has as if I remember correctly they started out having only 2 tines until a certain year.  I think that being very strict you can honestly say that they are PC for the year 1830 and newer but I'm not an expert at such things.  If you were to say that these are exactly like they used during the Revolutionary War then I'd be sure that you can document it but this is "on the cheap" not "100% period correct".  They will make a fine addition to your kit though.  Wipe some food safe mineral oil on them before storing them to prevent new rust.

three and four tine forks were used during the revolution , the knives will pass , though a lot of earlier knives had a wider blade ! should serve you quite well !
