Sorry for not introducing myself yesterday.... been dealing with the flu. Thanks for all the welcomes! I live in the foothills of the Appalachian Mtns in Southeast Tennessee. I am 38 years old & my wife & I have 4 kids. A son 6, 3 daughters 5, 3, 1. I have been self-employed for several years but the landscaping business has went belly up around here & am looking for work. I have fly fished all over the country, still enjoy fishing for native Appalachian brookies the best. I build my own selfbows & cane arrows & love to hunt the primitive way. This journey has lead me here. I was at our gun club and a gentleman brought in his handmade flintlock. I quit sighting in my inline & watched him for a hour finally he asked if I would like to shoot it & I was hooked. I was saving for a Chambers kit but the current job situation nipped that one. A friend of mine wanted that old Knight inline & had a GPR 50 Cal Flinter for trade so I was in business. New to all this but am shooting my tale off & love it. Look forward to all you alls wisdom. BTW my 6 year old is shootin the GPR w/ me daily & loves it. However it is a handfull for him. I am looking for a Deer Hunter in rough shape (cheap) to rebuild for him if you all have any leads I would appreciate it.

I reckin your gonna fit in real well here young feller, seems like many of our members started about the same way. At least you have a fine start with that Great Plains rifle, one of the best production rifles ever made according to many of our shooters. Thanks for joining up with us and may you have a great time shooting smokepoles from now on.

Welcome to the fire, Rip. Hard times been nippin at all of us, unfortunately. But you can find some real good advice and some real good deals occasionally. That's what we are all about here, doing it with as little as possible! And enjoying the trip along the way. We're very glad to have you along for the ride!  thmbsup
