Up here has been really bad for the past few days.  Hurricane-gusting winds. floods virtually washing away towns.  There were 400,000 power outages - representing at least half the population - and we've been without until yesterday evening.  With temps going into the teens we couldn't stay here without heat.  So down to Portland for the day and night and the next day too.  Our town was flooded badly and our local grocery store pretty close to destroyed.  It won't be fixed and back in service for a looonng time and we'll have to shop in another city.

Roads, villages, homes and businesses flooded and I have no idea of how many still are without power.  Our house is on a ridge above the Kennebec river and safe from floods.  Our county, Kennebec, was the hardest hit, aaarrgh...!  MO LATER.

Realize now, that half the population of Maine could be stuffed into a VW Beedle.  And most are in Portland , Lewiston-Auburn, and Waterville & Bangor.  Most of the rest of the state is wilderness with occasional tiny villages.

I would imagine damage is in the billions but I just haven't heard anything.  There were deaths but I haven't heard any numbers.  In another 100 (give or take) years there will be another one of these storms.  But we are going to be better prepared for the next one than we were for this one.  [hmm]

Tough times for sure. Actually worse than the hurricanes down here due to winter temps and storms. Move back to Georgia ... QUICK!

Glad you and yours are safe...

And since the storm it's been raining 5 days out of every seven.

The weather guy on Fox this morning said that the county most impacted by the hurricanes this year was Washington County, Maine.  [hmm]   La. and south Fla. didn't get any hurricanes making landfall.

With this last storm Kennebec county (us) was hit the worst but everywhere had their share of destruction.  Interesting winter; not much in the way of snow but we get "blessed" with almost daily rain.

Our first winter here left us with a good 6' of snow.  I predict next year it'll be down to ZERO!
