Cheap Water Buffalo horm

I often find things I can use at the local Dollar Tree, which now has prices of $1.25 for everything. 3 days ago, In the pet section, they had 3 inch cross sections of water buffalo horn for use as dog chews.  I got some nice dense solid black pieces to turn some bodkins, fids and other small items.   Might be large enough for scales on patch knives, etc.

That is a great tip! I will have to look for that at our local dollar tree, who would have known

I bought a completed water buff horn really cheaply a few years ago.  I used it a good bit until one day I dropped it on a concrete floor.  It cracked too badly to fix and was then dumped.  But then I already have enough horns full of powder and ready to go.
