I would like some advise on this  pnic. From some who have traveled this path before. I have, what I think is an ok form made from some card stock and tape. Short ramrod blank is covered with an aluminum foil and masking tape wrap and plugs the hole well.  But..my wrap seems a little tight and doesn't have but about 3/32" gap on the sides for the pewter. Will the hot pewter stretch out the form a little or before it hardens up? Any advise?

I'd make it stand out a bit more to allow for working it down as you begin final shaping of your stock. What if you inlet the barrel into a section that was the correct length that you're trying to achieve for your cap and make the outside edges stand the proper height from the side flats of your barrel when you place it over the top of the barrel and then wrap the whole thing? Hope that makes at least a little sense..
I've only performed a pewter nose cap once and aside from a negligible void, I'd call it a success.

A picture is worth a thousand words right??? Here's a crude drawing of what I'm attempting to convey in my post above....:

Used your advise, Razor62, and it worked out pretty well. 👍🏻

Here is my melting set up with my ladle for pouring.

Just need to do some final shaping and finishing on it. I think it will turn out pretty good.

Young guys should hang out with old guys; old guys know stuff.

Thanks guys! Once I get the nose cap finished up I'll start on a custom patch box pnic

Nose cap almost finished...but there is a problem to solve hdslp.  I left a little too much wood and exposed it when I was filing down the pewter. Anyone have advise on how to save the cap?  I really don't want to remove/redo it!

Well, you gonna pull them pistols or whistle Dixie?

After some good advice, I dug out the exposed wood and simply poured into to the empty cavity. Patch job is pretty much invisible. Glad I didn't have to completely remove it and start over.

Good job.  Pewter can be kind of forgiving as you work with it.
