The older I get the less "stuff" I want to carry in the woods. I hunt turkeys with a .40 cal. flintlock and have always just dropped a handful of balls in the bottom of the bag. But due to hip and knee problems I don't get around like I used to, so I was looking for a better way of totin a few round balls.
I don't need many, 2 at the most probably, but I'd feel better with 5. So I was looking over some antlers in my shop and finally found a shed with a straight section long enough to suit my purposes. So I cut it out and drilled a hole deep enough to hold 5 .395 balls, made a simple stopper and tied it on with jute.
So now I got 6, one down the bore and 5 in the antler.

I think I'll look and see what I have that will work for one.  Great idea!
Young guys should hang out with old guys; old guys know stuff.

Really like that idea.  Cleaning up to move and just happened across an elk antler with the tips of most of the tines missing, but plenty of meat left to make a ball carrier or two... got to love these on the cheap ideas that members come up with here....

Pretty cool. Nice job.

I don't like to fiddle too much and use loading boards. It eliminates a lot of steps.
