Here's a plug for a young knifemaker in Alabama. Lucas Bullington. (www.customhuntingknives.org)

I ordered this knife in early May, and it arrived today. It takes time, but he does amazing old-school work, and was great to deal with.

This is a "Woodsman's Nessmuk", 0-1 carbon steel, curly maple handle with darkish buckskin stain, and steel pins and lanyard. Hand-forged blade and tang, hand carved handle. Very hardy field knife, awesome fit and finish. Blade is right around 4 1/2 inches, OAL is 9". Blade is about 1/8" tapered and 1 3/8" at the belly. It is sturdy. He and his brother handtool a belt sheath that comes with it as well as a storage cloth and a handy care suggestions pamphlet signed by the maker.

Excellent quality all-around, and at reasonable workingman's prices for a one-off custom knife. He has many models and options for finish and handles, and will work with you to create whatever he doesn't already create.

Keep your powder dry.

That is a nice looking knife.
I am the one your mom warned you about!

Is there carving other than the shape to fit the tang? I couldn't see any if there is.

Very nice-looking knife but a bit big for me.

No sir, just the forming to the tang. But it is nicely done. It's slightly bigger than I thought it would be, but it feels compact and really well balanced. 4 1/2" of blade and 4 1/2" of tang and handle. He does nice work.
