Thanks for the info. Most companies want close to $200 in fees to send powder to CA, or just plain won't send it here at all. I ordered 5 pounds and it cost under $100 shipped. Now that is a good deal for out here.

What makes it so expensive to ship to California?  Under $100 to ship.    in Pennsylvania,  1 1/2 years ago I ordered 25 pounds of powder and the HazMat fee was $25 + shipping.     WHY is California soooo expensive.   Or is it because Californians are so wealthy,  ROLLING in gold????

Rolling in regulations is more like it. As far as I (or anyone I know who shoots black powder) know, there isn't anyplace you can buy BP over the counter in CA, you have to mail order it or get it out of state. Everywhere I have tried to buy BP on line either quoted $200 Hazmat fees (for under 25 pounds) or flat out would not ship it to California. Between 25 and 50 pounds could come common carrier with a $25 hazmat fee. With shipping it ran about $20 to $24 per pound. Different clubs out here make "club buys" and pass it out at shoots, which in CA is technically illegal. According to the ATF I can make it or buy it to a max of 50 pounds, but I cannot sell any of it nor can I give it away. No rules about setting it out at a shoot and letting other shooters use it though, go figure. So for me, being able to get 5 pounds delivered to my house for $102.00 is fantastic. For those of you not schooled in the intricacies of higher mathematics (Red Badger are your ears burning? Oh right, you went back to school, never mind) that works out to $20.40 per pound of Goex. The last BP I bought OTC in Reno was $26.99 per pound plus sales tax. For this most pleasant transaction, I am doing the happy dance all through the house.
