Not really sure if this fits in here...but Harbor Freight has wool blanket's on sale. I bought two of them, brought them home, and found they have a horrible smell!  :o Apparently this is due to oil, or a flame retardant coating in them as they were meant to smother shop fires. I did some research and found that washing them in dishwashing soap removes this stench.  ;D At the price they're going for it's worth the trouble to wash them...at least to me.

I just ordered 2 of them

People on another site tell me I'm wasting my money by not buying the proper items, tent, clothing and other gear but I just don't know if this is something I will enjoy doing for years to come. I'm getting just enough to get by until I see if this is for me

Dryball

Jerry, your going at it the right way...don't buy expensive till your sure. And a lot of the time the less expensive items work fine for years anyway.

Mike, copy out the online ad first...the stores have a higher price. If you show them the ad they will sometimes meet the ads price. They did for me.

Ill wash them in woolite and dry them on light with a dryer sheet.

Unless my smeller is messed up mine do not have a bad smell

Dryball

Jerry, it's not really a bad smell...more of an oily smell.

I boght the cheap ones. They had a little bit of a smell but Bethy washed them in arm&hammer laundry soap and then hung them outside to dry for a couple of days to air out, They are just fine now.
