Looks good for a first try I'll have Bulldog lady critique it more....

Yup the originals would keep hardtack, pemmican, or other materials the wanted safe in the top section which is why it folded over

Outside of appearing to be pink- looks good for first time,  I've got a pattern I can give you web site for if you like, it is a more solid pattern, knitting like everything else just takes practice.  Toque isn't a real beginners project.  Try just making some potholder squares till you get the hang of showing them needles who's the boss.  Size of  needles makes a big difference as does the yarn, the bigger the needles the looser the stitches, reverse works if to small,  you did a great job though,  Toques were sometimes made out of the sleeves of old jackets or coats and the end tied shut to hold food, etc.  Keep us posted on next one  BL

the pink is just the lighting in my livingroom its supposed to be blaze orange and my next one is coming along alot better the stitches are tighter and i wouldnt mind the site i could use all the help i can get

Hammerhead

second ones already on the way

Kris you are an inspiration to us all.  you have a mind to try to make something AND you dont give up.   You keep  improving until you reach perfection.     :applause:          All this from a young man, would like to see you in say 40 years, to see what you have accomplished.   I see greatness in your life  Keep at it, never stop or give up.

voyageur1688 is right. In the canoe and streams all day, you need a place to keep your tobac and tinder dry.
