First bag..spilled a LOT of blood with this two needle attempt. It's a tad bit small, the next one will be deeper. Live and learn.

Didnt have any iron rings so made elk antler rings, strap is half width of reins. Nothing special but it went with me to my first rondy this year.

Lookin' good! Hope you can find thimbles to fit! I can't.

Hey Dogshirt, next time you go to the hardware store, look for copper end caps for copper pipes. For those of us who are size enhanced, these can come in handy as a thimble. You can even shape them somewhat with a hammer and a shaped wood piece. Wish I could find mine I would send you a picture.

You might want to replace those antler rings soon. I dont see those as beeing a load bearing material. Craft stores should have medium sized bras or iron rings on hand.

So far the antler rings are holding pretty strong. They are 1/2" thick..next time I'm in a city big enough to have a craft store I'll pick up metal rings.

The antler should last 2 or 3 lifetimes, it's hard as hell!
