I have been making home made powder now for a couple of years (WARNING- MAKING BLACK POWDER IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS!) and just started compressing and grinding my powder so we had to do a speed test on the stuf....this turned out to be much harder than it sounded...heck just getting accurate measurements turned out to be quite a chore...anyhow...I did finally get a good round of tests from the homemade and Swiss...The Goex had a bit of an advantage but I have a buddy bringing me some 3f Goex for the next round! Check out the video!

The velocity results were eye opening.  Powder making IS dangerous.  I'd like to see more testing.  Good job!
Young guys should hang out with old guys; old guys know stuff.

We are going to do a volume test in the next couple of days...should be different yet.

Yes black powder making is extremely dangerous as was stated and we don't recommend getting involved with it for obvious reasons. However, given that Brushhippie is an old time powder maker it is very interesting to see the results of his tests. I would have not thought homemade would do so well.
I am the one your mom warned you about!

Yes Thanks...DO NOT DO WHAT I DO....These experiments are done under strictly controlled conditions DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME.

The Swiss should have won this test. I think it didn't because you weighed the loads.  I feel measuring by volume the Swiss would have pulled ahead.

I do not want to rain on any one's parade, but I do not care how much experience you have, making black powder is beyond dangerous,Goex and Dupont earlier for example, who I believe are the real experts have accidents all the time.My understanding is you are supposed to make black powder only under license.I have never seen any evidence that the OP has a license.I think this type of post should not be allowed.

There is no license needed for black powder, under United States Code, some states may have regulations but I don't see any in a search of my databases.  That being said we here decided three or four years ago that we would never allow the formula to be posted on the site and Bush Hippy asked for permission before he posted this post.  He is an expert and we allowed him to post his findings... I am still waiting for the volume tests though... :)
