I made a few blades but haven't made any handles or sheaths yet, one new skill at a time skrt The dagger type was made today and the set of three alike is half of a big boys steak knife set (susp)

Looking good Blackfeet. What kinda handles you going to put on them? Are you making them to make or do you have a reason?  Cause one could come here and stay.. ROFL

I was just dubbing around and had some fairly thick 1050 stock on hand and figured to make a set of throwing knives. Still haven't got to that yet. Hammerhead was asking if I could make a dagger type knife so I tried that today. And those pictures do not do the blades justice. What was funny was that I had the edges of all of these knives close enough to sharp that when I hardened them just removing the scale with a fine sandpaper gave me a great edge. The double edge of the dagger was a bit of a chore. The steel is on the lower end of the spectrum for knife steel, from what I have read but it is really tough and recommended for sword stock. These are a 58 RC so they will hold a decent edge.

So you want to join the blade rescue and provide a good home for one eh? [hmm]

I've adopted many a blade, so it would have a good home. Heck i just picked up a knife off the blanket at last weeks shoot. I always grab a knife, don't know why? I LIKES THEM!!!!!

Blackfeet

Thank you as well bmcret, for a very enjoyable afternoon. I appreciate you showing me around and introducing me to a great group of people. You all put on a great battle and I will be both posting and sending you some pictures. I started scouting up a kit. By the way, the strap was stolen by my lady, she loved the colors. Worked out great as her birthday is coming up.

I have started to inquire about some equipment, I do not have a period rifle but was looking at Bethlehem traders shirts. $35 for linen, in red, blue, white , natural gray. That sound like a good price? One size fits all? I was looking at one at Calumet traders, do you have contact info for him. I will take this to PM

That's a good price but one size does not fit all.  Most of the time the PC shirts are cut to be a little larger than the 21st century counterparts and you will want to add in some shrikage too.  If you normally wear a large modern shirt then go with an XL 18th century offering.  Looking at the shirts Bethlehem traders has, they give two sizes, up to a 38 and up to a 52; what does that mean?  Do they mean chest size or sleeve length?  Also, does this style fit the time period you want to portray or is there an accpeted style for the group you want to join?  Don't buy a style that wasn't around when your persona was.
