Not sure if anybody's has ever ran into http://www.freecycle.org/ is interesting site people post things to try to give away nothing can be sold at all.  If nothing else it is recycled materials and keep out of landfills and sometimes you just get a really good deals.  At this site you just needed type in your city and state then register to within 12 to 24 hours he'll start getting emails from that group.  Some areas will literally flood your e-mail so careful on how many areas you sign for.
