Title: my mocs
Post by: raymond the younger on August 15, 2010
this is my first pair of mocs.  made from buff hide, rough out. to hide the smooth I added wool and beaded the edge.  toes are little pointy, so I will have to figure that one out. But, I am please can't wait to try them out in a few weeks. A thank you to Ron Pinson for his help.  Here is a few pictures.

WOW! Those are sharp! I'm gonna try making another pair myself here soon. I really like the beadwork around the flaps, what kind of beads did you use?

those are woodland center seams , the toes are gonna be more or less pointy ! been wearing these eastern style mocs for many years ! I believe they are the easiest to make , I have a pair I`ve been wearing off and on for 15 years ! lined em with wool blanket material . helps keep the hooves warm !

I have a pair I made in 1992! They are about to be retired. I've probly put ten or twelve soles on them over the years!

The pattern I have for center seam doesn't have soles?  Can ya  give me a clue on how they are attached etc.   Easy pattern, just didn't fit my bunions very well-!

well when I got too big of a hole in the bottom of the mocs I just added another layer of leather. I just traced out my foot and added about a half inch too it and whip stiched the new "sole" to the bottom of the mocs. When those ones wore out I removed the old sole in cut out a new one and sewed them on... and so on... It beats making new mocs twice a year...

when you make your pattern ,make the area that will be the toe a little wider and a bit more rounded . that helps !

Bulldog lady-
historically center seam mocs did not have and outer sole. They would patch the hole from the inside.  You cam trace around your foot, cut out of leather. Put leather piece in the mocs. If you want you can glue it in.

Hey, that would work too. Actually that sounds a whole lot easier.

Center seams unfortunately are pointed toed unless you make them outa real buckskins, which means braintanning and shaping the moc to yer foot.
And even though traditionally the Mikasuki folks, wore some types of center seams, some wore one piece side seams and I will continue to do so simply because they are the easiest to make, take the lease amount of leather and are a hole lot more comfortable to wear. thmbsup
