I was watching one of the ceremonies for Memorial Day yesterday and got an idea for something we could do to honor Dryball. We could set a time and all that are interested fire off a round in salute to him. I think it would be a fitting honor for him. It would be like our 21 gun salute only if all the members participated it could be over 700. I think it would be kind of neat at a designated time members all over the country would fire a shot and let Dryball know he will be remembered. What do you think?
I like it!
I'm in....
Yep Sounds like a plan to me! thmbsup
I an in also
That sounds wonderful! Someone pick a day and time.
thmbsup I'm in, let's make some smoke for DB
Works for me!
I think as it is Redhawks idea he should decide the day and time ...
but would sugest a day in far enough in the future so we can get the word out... I know several other sites have members who would like to participate and we need to give our own members who don't check in every day enough time to prepare...
Jim
I was thinking some people would have to go to a range to shoot so a Saturday or Sunday would probably work the best . Do you think a week would give time to get the word out? The more to participate the better. Jim if you want to set the time and date that will be fine with me. I just thought it would be a neat way to honor Dryball.
thmbsup cool, jest let me know when.
Shot a volley in his memory on monday..turned out to be the best target of the day...willing to join in the MASS volley also..
Doug
This sounds like a fitting tribute we can all participate in. How about @ the 13th or so,so those who only chime in a couple of times a month can get the word. Is there some way it can be flagged so it's prominant when you log in?
When one of our own crossover and if they are creamated,we put a measure of them in our guns and fire off a volley to help them on their way.
"Talked" to Dryball some, wearing one of His shirts....It would be an Honor....Eastern Standard Time...Let Me know and the Valley will Rock............
sounds good jist let me now when very good idea he would like that
HEAR YE, HEAR YE!
After long and considerable thought, (and a weekend of primitive survival training) Redhawk asked me to come up with a time for the volley...
I have looked at my calendar and I see that Sunday the 20th of June is the best day for me, I am suggesting that we fire our volley at 12 PM Pacific time, which will be 1 PM MST, 2 PM CST, and 3PM EST...
This also gives some of our other members who do not check the site every day an opportunity to see the post and join in the volley...
Does this work for everyone? I know some have to find ranges to go shoot at...
Jim
Jim
good time for me
Sunday the 20th at 1pm mst is perfect for me, I hope it works for everyone else hntr
Works for me. I will be at the Santa Fe Trail Rondy in New Mexico. I know he wanted to attend if he ever had a chance. We had discussed it a time or two...
June 20, 2pm CST.
Perfect! I had planned on heading to the hills and burn some black that weekend. Know just the right spot.
Sounds like a plan to me. It will be 3 pm for me. Hope everybody will get the word out and have one big volley for Dryball! Might see if I can get my friend to touch off his cannon and get these old Uwharrie hills a roaring.
sounds good ta me too
I cant on that day, gotta work.I'll just have to do mine the day before.
I'm definately in. Probly put a quarter pound down the cohorn. I know a great place to do it. Me an Squirrel and Dapper Don will probly get together at Trails that Sunday and make some THUNDER!
If I'm unable to get to a range where I can shoot on the 20th, I will at least bow my head and say a prayer for his continued peace at the appropriate time.
Baby and I ready , along with Jim and Patience ready to rumble a salute thru the canyon to our dear friend,
Actually I thought I would use the 50 cal Tennessee Flintlock I got from Dennis 2 times.... The one he was holding in the outhouse picture that he used as his avatar for the last few months... seems fitting to me.... and i know Patience will understand.... Sure was looking forward to letting him hold her...
Reminder that the Volley fire is this Sunday !
I will be there with the 54 Hawken that I got from Dryball.
I had Lady Bulldog, Dixie Doll, and myself here at the ol homestead and we fired on the hour in honor of Dennis....
Dixie used the 36 cal pistol I got from him, I used the 50 cal Tennessee Flintlock he carries in the outhouse picture, and Lady Bulldog used the .32 crockett I got for her from Dennis.
Not being able to get out of town, I figured I'd just burn off a charge of BP in the open on a brick. Dennis must be laughing about now. I put out a nice little pile of about 200 grains. Kept it nice and tight together in a little pile. PUt everything away and then tossed a match at the pile. Missed. Tried again. Missed. Getting frustrated. Tossed a third one. Missed but laying on the brick and lit. For some reason I reached for it to flick it into the pile. hdslp Just then *WHOOSH* followed by the smell of burnt hair. Mine! Right arm is minus quite a bit of hair and the place (and me) smells of burned hair. :-& Stinks. What story to tell my wife when she gets home from the store. Probably the truth. Easier that way since she would figure it out anyway.
At 1400 H or local time I fired the cannon with 2 oz, of 1F. No visit from the
Sheriff. [yet]
At exactly 3 PM eastern time we had these old Uwharrie hills a roaring in tribute to Dryball. I touched off my Mowery, my friend Steve his cannon and I let his grandson fire my squirrel rifle. It was a good volley to wake up the neighbor's Sunday nap even if the closest one is 2 miles away. Hope we had plenty that joined in !!

I just went and watched Harry. Had nowhere to shoot. Still thought of Dennis so I guess it counts.
Was gonna set of a m80 at work but couldnt get out of the office.Did say a prayer at the appointed time.Dang, sure do miss him.
Been thinkin of my father, of uncles gone, of Dennis, and many others that have taken the journey, I sure do miss them all.
hntr At exactly 1pm MST I was on the BP trail at my favorite target(a steel coyote set at 150yrds), had the trail all to myself and the day was absolutely beautiful, counted down the seconds and at the hour, took aim and pulled the trigger, DB woulda been proud, nailed it. thmbsup Was a really good day, thinkin maybe he was watching &)
Thanks all who participated, we all did what we could. I am going to leave this thread open for another day, for any more comments that want to be left. Then I am going to lock it and and sticky it.
2pm CST, Dietz gun range, New Braunfels Texas, about 40 grains without anything else in my caplock.
Godspeed.
That was great!!! A wonderful idea, and everyone came together in spirit and had a good time in honor of my dad. @Baldy's story, that was too funny! ROFL And Red Badger, Lady Bulldog, Dixie Doll firing on the hour and with the rifles you all got from him was very fitting. And even some cannons. Wow! Enjoyed reading it all! thmbsup
John,
Your father touched us all in different ways and when the idea was presented to me I thought it only fitting that we follow up on it.... Your father is not gone to us - just moved on to a better place where we will see him again when we arrive at the Rendezvous in the hereafter....
Not only did I shoot off one of his firearms it was the very first time for me on that type so it was really touching and meant alot to me DB will be missed greatly
