....just what type of rifle would be available from a local maker? I can't seem to dig much up as to what would be typical in New England-New York region.

Your choices would have been rimarily would have been full stock flint locks,
but you would be able find a maker who would make either full or half stock,
cap lock.
I am not sure what schools or design were avalable in the New Egland area, maybe some one eles can give that info
